Cost

Flat pricing or per seat, and which one costs you more.

Per contributor pricing charges for reps and gives viewers away. Flat pricing charges once for a seat band. Which is cheaper depends on your ratio of reps to non reps, and the arithmetic is worth doing rather than assuming.

The per contributor argument.

You only pay for the reps whose activity powers the product, and managers, analysts and operations people get access for nothing. Put that way it sounds strictly better.

It is a real advantage for a team with many viewers and few reps: a large ops function around a small selling team.

Where it stops being an advantage.

Most small companies are the opposite shape. Ten sellers and two people who look at reports. In that case you are paying for almost everybody either way, and the price per selling head is what matters.

A reported $15,000 entry package covering around five reps is $3,000 per rep. A flat $1,188 covering everybody is the whole team. The free viewers do not close that gap.

The arithmetic to run.

Count your sellers and your viewers separately. Multiply sellers by the per contributor price. Compare against the flat price for a band that covers everybody.

Then run it again at the headcount you expect in a year, because per seat costs grow with the team and flat pricing does not until you cross a band.

The part neither model shows.

Metered usage. Consumption credits for summaries or alerts mean a budget somebody manages and a cost when it runs out.

Kaypo is $99 a month for the whole team with no metering and no per seat charge, and the price is published.

Questions

Is per seat or flat rate sales software cheaper?

It depends on your ratio of sellers to viewers. Per contributor pricing favors teams with many viewers and few sellers. Most small companies are the opposite shape, where flat pricing per selling head works out lower.

Should I pay for viewer seats in sales software?

Only if the total is lower. Free viewers are worth little if the per rep price is several times a flat alternative. Run the arithmetic with your own headcount rather than comparing the headline model.
