Question
Deals rarely die at the end. They die when the champion loses internal support, when nobody but the champion was ever involved, when no real deadline existed, or when a required process step never started. All four are visible weeks before the loss is recorded.
Most losses get recorded as price or as went with a competitor, because those are what the buyer said. They are the polite version.
The actual cause is usually earlier and structural.
The champion lost the internal argument. There was nobody else to carry it, so the deal went quiet rather than being declined.
Single threaded. One contact, and they left, got reassigned, or changed priorities.
No real deadline. Nothing bad happened to the buyer if they did nothing, so nothing happened.
A process step never started. Security or procurement takes six weeks and there were three weeks left, and everybody pretended otherwise.
Go back through the deal and find the last time the buyer did something unprompted. That is usually the date. Everything after it was your side pushing.
Do this on five recent losses. The pattern is normally the same and it is normally earlier than anybody expected.
Every cause above has a signal: contact count not increasing, days since the buyer last moved, a stage running past what your won deals take, a close date that has moved.
Kaypo watches all four across every open deal and puts what moved in each rep Slack every morning, so the answer arrives while there is still something to do about it.
