How to

How to score deals in Salesforce or HubSpot.

There are three ways to score deals: a formula field you maintain yourself, the native predictive score your CRM already includes, or a purpose built tool. The formula field is free and goes stale, the native score cannot be inspected or edited, and only the third lets you see and change the model.

Option one, a formula field.

Free, immediate and yours. Add points for a demo, for multiple contacts, for a signed mutual action plan. Most RevOps teams have built one.

It goes stale because nobody owns it. The weights were guessed once, never tested against outcomes and never revisited. Within a quarter it is a number people ignore, and nobody wants to be the one to delete it.

Option two, what your CRM already includes.

HubSpot ships predictive deal scoring with Sales Hub Professional. Salesforce has Einstein. If you are on either, you already pay for this.

You cannot see inside either model, you cannot change the weights, and HubSpot documentation describes the score as informational and advises against it being the sole factor in a decision. It also documents that the model needs a critical mass of closed deals before predictions stabilize, which is hardest on exactly the teams that need help most.

Option three, a tool built for it.

The question to ask of any of them is whether you can see the model and change it. A score you cannot audit is a score your team will argue with, and a score your team argues with is a score nobody uses.

What to look for.

Can you see which signals moved a score and what each was worth. Can you change the weights. Can you test those weights against deals you have already closed. Does it reach people where they already are, or does it expect them to open another tab.

Kaypo does all four. Scores recalculated overnight, every input visible, weights editable, a back test against your own closed history, and a morning Slack message so nobody has to go looking.

Questions

Can you score deals in HubSpot?

HubSpot can score deals. It includes predictive deal scoring with Sales Hub Professional, and you can also build a manual score with a calculated property. The predictive model cannot be inspected or edited, and HubSpot documents it as informational.

How do you build a deal scoring model?

Start from your own closed deals rather than a template. Find what your wins had that your losses did not, weight those signals, then test the weights against past outcomes to check they separate wins from losses. The testing step is the one most home built models skip.

Is deal scoring worth it?

It depends entirely on whether anybody acts on the score. A score nobody opens is worth nothing, which is why delivery matters as much as the model.

It arrives in Slack

Every morning, each rep gets one message naming the deals on their own book that moved overnight, biggest mover first, with the reason beside each number and the deals that have gone quiet underneath.

Why nobody uses the HubSpot deal score

HubSpot ships a predictive deal score with Sales Hub Professional, and its own documentation says not to rely on it. Why that matters.

Getting deal alerts into Slack that people actually read

Every CRM can post to Slack, and almost none of it gets read: the alerts fire on field changes rather than on anything meaningful. What to send instead.

Kaypo vs HubSpot

HubSpot is the CRM. Kaypo reads it and scores every open deal, then sends each rep a morning Slack message. What HubSpot already gives you and what it does not.

Does a deal score you configure yourself scale past a few hundred deals

The standard objection to editable scoring is that tuning becomes a bottleneck at volume. That is true of per deal rules and false of a weighted model.
